/start_rant It is pretty stupid of Ubuntu to move the firmware into this kind of folder. Do they expect the firmware to change the same as modules? If openSUSE did this, I would have to be unpacking or copying my firmware several times a day. I have already run 3 new kernels today. They also have not done us any favors by turning off the debug messages from bcm43xx. /end_rant If I followed your renaming, it certainly looks as if the firmware is being properly loaded. The debug messages would have told us for sure. The next step is to run the four commands 'ifconfig eth1 up', 'iwconfig', 'ifconfig', and 'iwlist scan' and send us the output that they produce. Does your laptop have a wireless on/off switch or button? Is it on, and is the wireless enabled light on?
