>From my experience with bcm4318, you need a bigger antenna, and the
range will be shorter than with ndiswrapper.  I realize that you may not
be able to change the antenna, but try getting close to the AP to see if
that's the case.

If the link quality is shown as 0, you are not associated.  Yes, it's
misleading to the see AP if the association didn't complete.  You can
try setting the ESSID again.  That should retry the association.
