I think Larry received the first part of my answer directly. was just a copy of my wpa_supplicant.conf and the debug outputs with both b43 and bcm43xx.

  Here are the results of the tests with network-manager.

I have to mention first that I did let udev calling the wifi card wlan0 instead of eth0. That's not a mistake :-)

  I added comments at lines #1, #68 and #90 to let you know what happened.

Note : the signal strength reported by knetworkmanager was different with both modules : bcm43xx gives a 89% signal and b43 gives 68%
