I built and ran 2.6.29 for about 12 hours with no problems. It was tested with RTL8187B and with the old-style BCM4312 802.11a/b/g card. It is very unlikely that a firmware problem could crash Linux. As reported earlier, you need to report info about the crash. Was this a vanilla 2.6.29? If you added compat-wireless from yesterday to it, you may have been hit by the faulty patch entitled "mac80211: remove mixed-cell and userspace MLME code".
