I am just an end user. Not anyone relating IT profession (Civil
Engineer).

Recently, to solve this problem in my personal level (very very old
laptop, 64MB RAM Celeron processor, only runs windows 98, but
doesn't get USB port) I have gone through some searches and reading.

1. The community is working on Fluxubuntu, which is scheduled as the
ubuntu release + 3 months. They have an website (google:
fluxubuntu). The default is fluxbox here.

2. Another small community is working on releasing UbuntuLite. This
includes IceWM as the default window manager - and from other
sources I have learned that IceWM is the most miser for memory
requirements; besides it have themes look alike Windows 95 and XP.
There was a previous release called UbuntuLite 1.1 based on 6.04 I
guess. Now the new version based on 7.04 is scheduled to be released
on 19th July (If I can remember correctly). This community have no
website, but all the communications are limited within google
groupmail. The latest version (7.04 based) have passed alpha testing
phase, and now in beta testing phase.

My question/request is:
why choosing xfce for default, but not lighter IceWM? Because, xfce
system i.e. xubuntu recommends at least 128 MB of RAM for proper
running (though it says 64MB is OK but not recommended). On the
otherhand IceWM is fine with 64MB RAM.

Please consider facility and lightweightness while choosing between
xfce, fluxbox, iceWM or any other lighter system, which I dont know.

Pardon me for any inconvenience.

Regards,
Shamim.
