Yes, we do always enjoy all the news and articles that tells how "M$ sucks". But this topic always makes me throw some comments out there.
Firstly, we know M$ is evil for its business strategy. It just kills its competition in various manner. No matter how much we hate it, BillG is doing it finest for its share holder. Even though with my zero level of business knowledge, i know there are many type of business strategy and what M$ doing in one of the traditional one - establish monopoly. Put ypurself in the shoes of M$ investor who has got few million $ in M$ share and think how will you want Bill to run the company. I am sure I will want to marry Bill for the heck of a job he has done. Now stating that, when it comes to Linux, we are all M$ haters. why? Just because Linux hasn't taken over the ground dominated by Windows? In my view, it is not necessary to have such a one to one relationship. First of all, Linux is taking over by its own merit. But in that path theres two issues - M$ business strategy to hinder Linux growth in OS market + Linux still *sucks* in many ways as an desktop OS. Anyway I i don't want to start a flameware on it. But my point being - Linux donesn't need to rise based on the hatred to M$. M$ hating is just now a thing of past. As a Linux community we should spread the "Linux is great" without the "and M$ sucks" part. Now I have got few comments on "M$ dead" thing too. Yes, my understanding seems to agree but I would like say it as "M$ is dying" - there growth slowed down for some years now. This is a economic truth that everything growth will eventually face a decline. If you are underestimating few things --- 1. M$ can always refocus its business in new area instead of their cash cow MS Office (yes, if you though they are rich by selling Windows you are dead wrong. They will give it to you for free so that you keep locked in MS Office). They have realized that they their OS has nit the peak of its growth and there are competition that are too rebellious to contain (Linux + OpenOffice). Also with Google and boom of online services, the IT business has changed. So all they need now is Innovation to move to a new area and start domination there. 2. To support them on (1) they have -- a) Huge pile of $ -- b) great talent pool (b) is what it matters most, and M$ has it. What do u think talent poll level of M$. I am sure as a developer you have respect to another brilliant dev irrespective of the company they work for. Fortunately, I work with few Linux legends at my workplace everyday, i have friends who are M$ devs, I have had the opportunity to talk to key M$ and Google engineers: they are all the same in one thing - they love what they do, they keep it at their best, and they get better every day. So with approx 60K talented (mostly I must say :P) engineer how do you see M$ to go down soon. When you are talking about MS being dead which I assume a pretty generic statement form their share market growth. I want to give you some pretty disappointing news. 1. M$ has stepped up the battle and entered a zone where nobody will think M$ will dare too. M$ is now providing Windows OS cluster and field formerly 100% owned by *ux OSes. Just want to conclude saying, If you think its a battle between Linux and MS Windows, you will win a battle that MS already won and leaving the filed to win new ground. Let Linux win by its own virtue. M$ is not yet dead, its ain't over until they say its over. But main point being - Linux Love != MS hate. Keep them separate.
