Jane, There is more to your Globalnews posts than you seem to realise. I have no problem with being aware of what is happening around the world - it is the double standards which get me boiling. The posts which I found highly offensive were of the British politician who slammed Israel in Parliament, conveniently forgetting the colonial history of the British (and more particularly their role in Palestine after WWII), and generally denouncing Israel's right to exist and defend itself. One or two days later, you posted another article on the use of smart bombs and nuclear warheads in Afghanistan, by the US and UK armies, and the casual discussion about the ongoing "collateral damage", the fact that food parcels and the scatter bombs were the same colour (ultimate form of terrorism), etc. Totally justified, because might is right! What arrogant hypocrites! Please re-visit the soul-searching posts after 9-11 when Americans tried to answer the question "Why?", to see what I am saying.
Besides, living in South Africa and given our recent political history, I know how biased the media can be. Selective sensational reporting, to ensure media ratings, is the name of the game, especially in the USA. Therefore, I do not believe that the media give balanced views. Then, there is the act of censorship - your selective posting of articles. I have chosen to subscribe to BDNOW for agricultural reasons, and have derived great benefit therefrom. There is an enormous amount of poverty, suffering and political strife in my country, and have chosen to make my contribution to society by following the adage that charity begins at home. It actually costs me money to employ three, otherwise jobless people, in my small vegetable growing enterprise, not only supplying them with a basic monetary income, but also daily rations of meat and vegetables (as much as they want) grown in the garden. Maybe I am fortunate to live in a third world country, and don't need the "reality" prodding that is needed in countries such as the USA. I personally believe that there is enough suffering on the backdoor steps of every member of this group for us to make a free will contribution in our own sphere of influence, without having to read (or even highlight and press the delete key) biased self-serving, politically orientated media reports, which in many cases are the worst form of propaganda and indoctrination which I have come across (including that put out by the military and freedom fighters), because of their subtleness in manipulating peoples' minds and way of thinking. Finally, I pay for every second of telephone time when connected to the internet to download my e-mails. Therefore, I would like to know that what is coming down the wires is actually of agricultural, and more specifically Bio-Dynamic, orientation, and that I won't have to throw money away by deleting garbage. Having said this, I must add that I found your other post, ironically also from Globalnews, titled "Divine mission" to be a wonderful piece. Now, those type of "OFF" posts, can grace my IN-BOX anytime. Give us positive, good news. With respect, Stephen Barrow
