Hi Gil, James et al,

The work you are doing sounds very interesting Gil. I've been asked by my
local landcare group to follow up the lack of success of direct drilling
native tree seeds into paddocks. Realising there could be a # of reasons
for failure, almost feel as though I do not know where to start. If you
could point me in the way of any literature available on this topic, it
would be muchly appreciated. Also doing a report on the affects of
conventional agricultural chemicals on soil. Considering the size of the
problems it has created, I'm unable to find much on this topic.

My location is Lucknow, just outside of Orange on the way to Bathurst. We
had 8 mls earlier in the week, and perhaps double that yesterday, after the
storms that rumbled through the evening. Not enough for the fungi
yesterday, perhaps today. Apricots, nectarines and almonds all in blossom.

James I'm sorry if I missed any of your words with regards to silica and
locked up phosphorous. My knowledge is very limited, and it is only now
that I am beginning to understand the life & processes in soil. There has
been so many of these topics previously discussed, but my lack of knowledge
allowed them to go right over my head. Therefore I do apologise to all for
repetition as I get my hand around the wonderful world of soils.

OFF TOPIC

Any Aussies happen to see SBS last night on the Arab world? Did any of you
Americans after Sept 11 see the spontaneous remorse shown to your nation, by
them after Sept. 11th. The footage was thousands holding a candle light
vigil, chanting 'Condolences America'. For all the millions that have been
killed by the USA, Sept 11 is minuscule. As one Palestinean man put it
"America we feel your pain, when will you feel ours"

Apologies for the off topic, what was shown last night caused such a deep
ache within.

L&L
Liz
