Hi Gil , Cheryl,
We used to do this with redgum posts and creosote :
cut green posts and stand them up in a bath, as the sap dries out the top it
draws up the creosote - messy - hard work - and takes some months - I dont
like creosote but this bamboo / boron technique should work the same with
any type of green timber. The latest system the power authorities use for
timber pole preservation is a soluble boron rod that is inserted into a hole
drilled down into the base of the pole so they obviously think boron is
effective.
