Doubtless you will get lots of responses about peppering
many of them different and some conflicting. Hugh Lovel likes a carbon
effect (black) not completely consumed (for weeds), I have generally
followed that as his reason made sense, Maria Thun in gardening for life
says the ash needs to be whitish grey, I wonder does it make a difference?
or do both work equally well? - sometimes I think we make these ideas of
Steiners unneccessarily complex and difficult which leads to not doing
anything! You also can decay the insects - there is a couple of lines about
this in 'Agriculture' , I have the 1993 Malcolm Gardner version - page 124 -
I have had good success with a couple of decompose peppers and I believe
that James and Barbara Hedley also use this method sometimes. I have done
white ants (termites) and slugs this way with good results and its an easier
method for very small insects that are difficult to collect in numbers. Try
both ways and let us know what works.?
Cheers
