 Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe you will lose the static
variable information once all the object instances are garbage collected.

This might be a well-known fact for most you, but I have to ask if I'm
dreaming or not. To my surprise I discovered that public shared/static
variables survive round-trips and that they are shared over the IIS
application (i.e. different sessions will use the same variable). Is this
for real? If so, what do I need the Application object for?
