Hi Arun, From your query, you requirement is that customised user interfaces should
be shown based on the logged-in user. As per my understanding, COM+ Server is used
to launch business objects and can take advantage of the features like Distributed
Transaction Coordination, Object/Database Pooling etc. The Roles feature is
available in the COM+Server coz, in a normal business environment you will typically
have groups of users who will access these business objects through their User
interface and each group will have users who have the same permission sets(level of
permissions). So instead of assigning permissions for each user separately, you assign
it to a role which has a set of members. One thing to note is that this is totally
at the business tier of a n-tier application So using a COM+ based roles for
customising a user interface, i feel will end up hard-coupling the UI and the business
tier, which again i feel is not recomended So i think you should decouple -
Customised UI Design and Business Objects and Roles in COM+- Business Tier The
coupling should only be between a) Authentication and Business Objects in COM+ - Coz
the decision whether an operation can be performed is totally based on the user logged
in Authentication and Customised UI design - Coz of the business requirement of
customising the UI based on the logged in user(s) Here for authentication you can
use a mix of Forms+Windows based authentication For UI customisation, would recommend
you go for Db based customised approach regards, sr p.s. However do note that
the authenticated user is the common denominator for the Customised UI and the
business objects. you can look at a way of linking the Windows and Forms
authentication(must be a need if ur business objects are role based. In that case, ).
Sorry if tht confuses u, but it is still a blurry idea at the back of my mind. Will
get back soon once i put it into something more concrete
