I am developing a software system for asset management that would take care of all assets of the company for all the four offices. The software takes care of activities of three different departments. The users should be validated as they logon and should be directed to the appropriate department main screen e.g. for purchase users only purchase screens would be available. Inside the department again user should be given access to some specified screens only as per their designations. What kind of security mechanism should I use for it as this project is in Vb.Net. I am thinking to use Forms based authentication and maintain the user names, passwords, department names and screen names in the database and validate the process in code. Is my approach correct or is there some other easier way for this?
