----------------------------------------------------------- New Message on BDOTNET
----------------------------------------------------------- From: spark Message 4 in Discussion Mono is expected to be (when complete) a full implementation of the standardised .Net framework which is teh heart of the .Net technology as well as a l;arge portion of the base class libraraies. The standards are the ECMA specifications and you can find the actual documents here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/net/ecma/ Now Mono also attempts to add further additons to this standard for the platforms that they wish to target. It is expected that Mono will have webservices, ado.net, asp.net and such major components in due time. You cannot expect it to be Microsoft's responsibility to provide the richest development environment on every platform many of which would be very diffrent in design from windows. Microsoft has however provided a full implementation of the ECMA standard with free source code under teh Shard Source license and this is called Rotor or the SSCLI. Further .Net has been designed to be platform neutral for most places - which is largely why you will noytice that some items come under teh System namespace and some items fall under the Microsoft namespace. It is however the resposibility of the proponenets of various other operating systems to be technically adept to implement .net for their systems. People choose operating systems not by random but for the features and provisions that are avialable to them under that operating system. So if you were to choose one taht does not have certain features then you would either have toshhift to one that does or wait/contribute to the effort to implement those features under the operating system of your choice. In all fairness Miguel has done a brilliant piece of work on Mono and has gained the appreciation of many of us as well as of the kind folk at Redmond. Mono will in time be good enough. Of course folk at Redmond will also be working on the next big thing in computing in the meanwhile. :) as usual :) cheers and all the best, rosh ps. i suffer from typo-rrhea these days, so, do pardon typos. -----Original Message----- From: mathew [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, August 21, 2003 2:34 PM To: BDOTNET Subject: Re: Deploy asp.net application on Linux Server ? Reply Reply to Sender Recommend Message 3 in Discussion From: mathew I think, Microsoft is still not released .net Framework for other platforms. :( I dont think any of our exiting .net application work on this platform, because Mono is not .net Framework; they are trying to make something similar to this. Please give more ideas on this ....
