what 
does the serverside variable value contain ? 
if its 
a string.. use singlequotes at start and end of ur serverside script.. if you 
are not putting the single quotes .. jscript engine interpretes it as some 
variable which u didnt declared and thats y the error is coming i 
guess..
PS : 
var i = '<%=var1%>'; //If its a string
 
if its 
integer it will work..
 
i hope 
u r missing this .. otherwise it works fine ...

                i think you are not getting me exactely.actually i saw yr 
                code and u accessing variable value in a HTMl tag it also workin 
                at my end.but i am talking when i waana access this variable in 
                my javascript function using var var2=<%=name%>.
                have you tried this thing in yr code.
