Unmanaged code is that code which is run outside the CLR. In dotnet unmanaged code could be used. Ex: An existing COM component developed using VB or VC++ could referenced inside a dotnet program provided you import the type library (tlbimp command). In a COM component a dotnet component (which is managed code) could be used provided you export the type library (tlbexp component). recreate the dotnet component using this type library (regasm command) and then registering the component in the GAC(gacutil /i command).
