The query that is used to get the COUNT as a sub-query will be executed for each row that is being picked-up from the main query. This can cause huge performance problems in the long run. Maybe you might want to think of adding an extra column in your master data table to manage the count (through triggers probably). This way, the count is available already and you do not need to compute it from the child table.
