The logic that I gave assumed 4 pairs always, but if you 1, 2, 3, or 4 pairs, try 
chaning the @found condition in the program.   IF (@found = 4) must be changed to IF 
(@found IN (1, 2, 3, 4))   I think this will work for your case.   Although the logic 
may work fine, remember that SQL Server is not suited for this kind of logic. For 
example, splitting the string based on the delimiter is one line of code in VB.NET, 
but it is several lines in SQL. I would suggest that you relook at writing this logic 
in your application tier. Before inserting data, you can read the input fields and 
then perform this check in the application tier. This should make the code more
