IMHO singleton is only the mechanism to ensure that i can control the number of instances of a type in memory(contrary to the popular belief that only one instance can exist in memory). Right!!!! so it is only the control on number of instances which a singleton ensures and i feel it has nothing to do with the object's lifetime itself So I think, rather than the singleton(which is just another pattern), here the lifetime would depend on the "static" qualifier. Isnt it??
