Hi Rosh   Would the term "Singleton" have any impact on the lifetime at all.   IMHO 
singleton is only the mechanism to ensure that i can control the number of instances 
of a type in memory(contrary to the popular belief that only one instance can exist in 
memory).  Right!!!!  so it is only the control on number of instances which a 
singleton ensures and i feel it has nothing to do with the object's lifetime itself   
So I think, rather than the singleton(which is just another pattern),  here the 
lifetime would depend on the "static" qualifier. Isnt it?? So  in that case wont it 
exist till the lifetime of the webserver, as you have mentioned   hth regards,   sr
