----------------------------------------------------------- From: PrasadNair Message 4 in Discussion In simple words, every application running in a Windows environment is regarded as 'one' process. Each such process might have single or multiple threads depending on the threading model followed by the process... The threading models can be described as : Single Threading :- the meaning is implicit in the name itself... Apartment Threading (STA or Single Threaded Apartment) :- The process is divided into various apartments and each apartment is composed of a single thread. Free Threading (MTA or Multi Threaded Apartment) :- The process consists of a single apartment and the apartment can hold multiple threads. STA and MTA are obviously multi threading models and hence perform better than single threading. MTA performs better than STA because of the fact that communication between apartments in STA requires proxies that adds to a performance overhead. ---That should give a bird's eye view of the threading models; and as far as an article on the topic goes, check out this link 'http://www.developer.com/net/cplus/article.php/2202491'... >>>hope that was helpful...
