----------------------------------------------------------- From: chaitanya Message 3 in Discussion Just Imagine you have to retrieve the customer information and based on that update the status of customer. The application would first retrive the customer id , then fetch the records from Database for this customer id . If the info is spreaded out in different tables in database u make joins or u end up calling each table in separate SQL. The overheads of calling each statement are opening the connection send the statement , parse / comile it wait for the results and close the connection. Compare this whole scenario with Stored proc implementation. You just pass the customer ID and status to sp. things are done in one step at application level. At sp level all is done in one shot ( the different sql statement will be executed in one go and not separate chunks) , reducing the network traffic, enhancing performance , incresing maitenance ease. ----------------------------------------------------------- To stop getting this e-mail, or change how often it arrives, go to your E-mail Settings. http://groups.msn.com/BDotNet/_emailsettings.msnw Need help?
