That is more because they are so syntactically different languages. Also, very rarely would people have an application written in .NET (which is relatively a newer technology) to Java (relatively an older technology). This is why you might not find off-the-shelf converters. Language conversion is a major area where there are just too many things to take care of. I don't think all features of Java programs can be just "translated" to VB.NET without a little round-about work.
