There are many options you can use to generate test data. The simplest is to use some 
function to randomize the input. What kind of testing are you looking at?? If it is 
performance testing, then your data needs to be as random as possible, otherwise the 
indexes on the table will not be properly used.   If you simply want more data in the 
table, use INSERT INTO table SELECT * FROM table. Note that as you keep doing this, 
the time increases, since SQL Server is also logging the data. At this stage you can 
either TRUNCATE the log and then continue loading (this might be something you will 
want to do in your SP also).   If this seems still slower, generate your data through 
other means (for example in a XL spreadsheet) and then use a tool like DTS to upload 
the data. DTS provides for data batching and can help speed data loading.   HTH,
