Guys, correct me if I am wrong

To open the word file for user to edit (if its stored in db)

1) Create a file on your disk from sql server & write the binary data from the field & 
provide a link to user for editing

2) write an app which will be using filesystemwatcher to check the changes made to the 
file on the disk.

3) catch those changes & write the content of the doc file back into the db

alternatively, whideby will provide something known as Activexdocument host. I think 
that might help you
