Simple funda for shared assembly is " Side by Side Execution " , essentially to get rid of DLL hell , that means two assembly of same name but different versions may co exists and can be used by different Apps . Important thing about assemblies in GAC are : 1. Should be strongly named ( using sn.exe ) 2. Can be installed in GAC using gacutil.exe .
