Cron can't wake the computer, but there is a way to do it:

  1. Open System Preferences

  2. Click on the "Energy Saver" icon

  3. Click the "Schedule" button

  4. Set a "wake" schedule for a few minutes before your cron job is set
     to run

I'm sure there's a way to do that from the command line, but I've not
bothered to track it down.
