The original "Angstrom" image does not support this out of the box. The factory bootloader assumes the presence of a microSD card is enough to boot from it, without any fall back. Either insert the microSD after boot has started, add a dummy uEnv.txt telling it to boot from eMMC in the first partition, or just switch to the debian based image i've been pushing on this list.
