Robert, This looks to have fixed the problem.
Regarding the source of the BBB, I don't know if it originally came from Embest; I purchased in through a major online retailer. I presume updating Debian to the latest image would also have corrected this issue? Perhaps I'll give that a try next. Thanks very much for the help.
