Yes, thanks very much Nelson.  I finally located a Derek Malloy video on 
setting up network connection sharing here

 that guided me through the setup step-by-step.  A little tense translating 
Win 7 instructions to Win XP -- but got it working after a few tries.  

Hope the link will be of help to the next guy who, like me, is not educated 
on networking issues like this :-)
