Thanks for the help.  The 8.3 image I loaded on my A5C board has issues
with the Ethernet port.  Could you recommend a 7.9 or 7.5 (LTS) snapshot?
These two "production release" images won't flash on my old board:

BBB-eMMC-flasher-debian-7.9-console-armhf-2015-11-03-2gb.img
BBB-eMMC-flasher-debian-7.9-lxde-armhf-2015-11-03-2gb.img
