"I don't like this, how do I disable it?"
You pass the net.ifnames=0 on the kernel command line

Ubuntu 16.04 uses this scheme and it causes me grief when I use my BBB and
multiple BBG with the usb gadget Ethernet. I've simple scripts to set up
networking so the Ubuntu host can do NAT to give the bone internet access
over the usb gadget, on the bone side its all the same (so far) but on the
Ubuntu side the interface name changes with the board. If there was a way
to have multiple usb gadget interfaces (multiple bones) running at the
same time on a single host this might be helpful, but for me its just one
more "oh crap, I forgot to change this :( " moment.
