Oh, I think I understand the confusion.  I didn't connect a 3S LiPo to the 
2S LiPo connector (3 pin JST I think).  I connected the 3S LiPo to the DC 
barrel jack that has a 12V sticker on it (I think you can see it in the BB 
Blue pictures online).
