Okay give the bone101 package update a shot:

sudo apt update ; sudo apt upgrade

1: backup old example folder:

https://github.com/rcn-ee/repos/blob/master/debian-9-bone101/suite/stretch/debian/preinst#L3-L9

2: init example folder as a git repo, so it's initial state is always set:
