Got it! u-boot just needs:
CONFIG_FS_BTRFS=y and we need to pass: mmcrootfstype=btrfs rootwait thru /boot/uEnv.txt and it just works: https://gist.github.com/RobertCNelson/d2ba5d74c8bc7407ce7bd8a521424b20 I'll add that config to u-boot by default...
