Okay, let's give this fresh image a quick test: https://rcn-ee.net/rootfs/bb.org/testing/2019-05-12/stretch-iot/bone-debian-9.9-iot-armhf-2019-05-12-4gb.img.xz (it'll take about 60 seconds on first startup to finish generating ssh key's etc..) So just watch dmesg, looking for the serial usb device to show up, then try that interface first..
