That seems like a useful thing to investigate. I personally would welcome making Beancount a major mode if that interacts well with it and it serves most people. It seems to be the most intuitive way for most people. I only ever use org-mode major + beancount minor myself. If I recall, Stefan once made a case that it ought to be a major mode (over a dinner heavy on raclette cheese some years ago, if my memory serves).
What major mode do people use, and would anyone object strongly and if so why?
