I guess that is the reason why apps like Venmo are so popular in the US but not that much in Europe where all bank accounts nowadays have free online money transfers and charge fees for printing check books. It is very rare nowadays to find a retail shop that accepts checks in Europe. Indeed, about half of the checks I wrote where while living in the US, but this is still only about only one check per year on average.
