I haven't heard anything bout gentoo, but then again
I don't use it at as my primary distro. There is nothing
inherently wrong about using the 1.3 gems, you just need
to be aware that (at least with the debs) that they point
to a diff. location for gems. In the past I think I just
grabbed the tarball from the gems site.
