In the post that started this discussion the rules as you specified them was satisfied. Andthe requesters problem was succesfully solved. >> Ian wrote : >> This is how I would do it. Also the code was tested, it run successfully and produced the exact results the requester asked for. The code did have some syntactical errors and that was pointed out. More people learned. Still that was not enough, I had to read over and over again that the code was "poor", "weak" and the message I (and I'm sure a lot of other newbies following along) received load and clear from some contributors was that we are not worthy to post code or help on this list. <quote> 2.1 - What is the list for? A list for beginning Perl programmers to ask questions in a friendly atmosphere. </quote? The goal of any beginners list is to nurture newbies(not monkeys), and help them grow into followers so that they can in turn help other newbies and so grow the community as well as the project. I've see and experience this in the druapl community where everyone is encouraged to help in the forums where they can. Answer questions if you can. The drupal community grew very big very fast because of this. If I did not answer Joytishmaan Ray's request, he could have moved on and got help from somewhere else and solved the problem with a different tool. Nobody else would've answers his question? But he came back, thanked me and he is now looking for books and material to learn perl. One more convert. Ultimately is that not the goal of this list? Ian
