I have been willing to mentor interested novice programmers in my own projects or other projects of their choice whether in Perl or in different technologies for quite a while now. While a few people contacted me and expressed interest, nothing concrete has been materialised, but I still haven't given up. Some projects of importance off the top of my head: 1. buu and simcop2387 have written buubot , which is now also used in perlbot. You can see them in action on #perlcafe where we tolerate bot-play, silly or off-topic discussion and even non-politically-correctness on Freenode ( http://freenode.net/ ) , and other channels there such as #perl (I'm rindolf there generally, but not always present - IM me on Jabber/etc. if you want me to join.). While the buubot codebase is functional, I believe it still lacks a lot of automated tests, which would be very useful to ascertain we don't break stuff by mistake. 2. http://freepanel.org/ is an open-source system administration portal written in Perl. This project is young, and under heavy development. At the moment , all the system management portals that we are aware of (used by the various web hosting providers) are both proprietary and cost money and we want to change that. 3. I have some modules of my own on CPAN - http://search.cpan.org/~shlomif/ . Most of them do not require any show-stopping work, but I can still assign people various tasks to do with them. 4. And like I said, I can provide some guidance for contributors to other projects, though it would be a good idea for you to ask here on beginners@perl.org, on IRC , PerlMonks, StackOverflow.com , etc. first. ----------- Good luck and have fun, Shlomi Fish -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Shlomi Fish http://www.shlomifish.org/ What does "Zionism" mean? - http://shlom.in/def-zionism Deletionists delete Wikipedia articles that they consider lame.
