While this is true, it's seldom clear to the beginner when this list has diverted to esoterica. It's *critical* for a beginner to know what they *don't* need to pay attention to at the beginning, and we do them a disservice by commingling easy and not-so-easy stuff. So I'd back Zander, and ask people who want to get into advanced stuff to take it somewhere like comp.lang.perl.{misc,moderated}.
