This looks a lot like an ix86.  What generation, I don't know.  Lst time I remember 
explicitly knowing that my box had a math coprocessor, I was running a 386.  I believe 
the Pentium chip pulled the functionality back into the CPU.

I ouwld suspect that this is a problem with the basic machine, rather than with Perl 
per-se.
