Ooops, Ellen, this bit of my post was mainly tongue in cheek! After mail re. distracting humping pup, etc! And advice re. my bringing up many very large, very still male dogs! My Big Boys still happily run between my legs, I pick 'em up front end, though what I whisper in their ears is mostly private!!! And they have never attempted to hump me or visitors unless happens to be a visiting bitch! Much appreciated your post, especially the recommendations to Patricia McConnell and Suzanne Clothier's books, good reading. So many views on dominance and being in charge and different ways to achieve it! Mostly is being happy and enjoying being with your dogs, let 'em know from the start what is right or wrong behaviour in a gentle and fun fashion. And take into account the temperament of the different dogs, each one will be different. Enjoy!
