Lily has a funny habit, and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on why she does it. Whenever my husband comes home, she races around the house to find a beat-up old stuffed duck they dogs play with. She will not go and greet Matt until she has it in her mouth, and she will not quit pestering him until he takes the duck from her. She is serious about this - 99% of the time she is submissive to Max. However, if he happens to have the duck when Matt is arriving at home, Lily will growl at Max and swat him with her paw (like a cat!) until he drops the duck. Lily will then swipe it up and race to Matt. She rarely ever touches the duck except for this ritual, and she doesn't do this when I come home (I think my feelings are hurt!!). It's completely endearing, but we're wondering if anyone can explain the doggy psychology of this habit.
Thanks, Julia Lily & Max Astoria, OR
