I got Wifi to work on our internal access point. The device does not have
active data plans. Other hot spot/access points do not work.
I am thinking there's something with the carrier preventing this also.

Yeah that's correct. Wifi will only get you to a certain point however without
data service you won't get email etc

No. I have a WLAN Profiles setup on the BlackBerry 8820. They connect fine,
until the host routing table information is lost.
The other question is why the device isn't able to connect to the BES via the
BlackBerry network over other Wi-Fi access point/hotspot.
