I seem to recall reading somewhere recently that WiFi is now
dependant on the carrier data - you cannot have it without a data
plan. Perhaps is was BB forums???
Anyone else?

No. I have a WLAN Profiles setup on the BlackBerry 8820. They
connect fine, until the host routing table information is lost.
The other question is why the device isn't able to connect to the
BES via the BlackBerry network over other Wi-Fi access point/hotspot.

I was able to get a device provisioned this way, but the device
