Thank you so much. This is the information I was looking for. I will
check with RIM to see if they support Log shipping. And I did want a
transparent cutover. I'm glad to know mail flow will not be affected.
Good to know not to restart services. I really appreciate your quick
response.!!!

I've never liked log shipping, and I don't think that it's supported by
RIM. You might want to check on that.

I don't believe you'll have an invisible "hands-off" failover with that
setup either.

If the database goes down, there will be minimal impact to users. You
can run BES without a DB connection for several hours (depending on how
busy your BES is and how many users you have. Mileage may vary)

Mail flow will not be affected.

Keep in mind... you CANNOT reboot BES or restart any BES services if the
database is not running.

My SQL team suggested setting ours up to use Log shipping. Do you think
that is sufficient? This way the data is not replicated real time but
you can set that often. I am thinking that will probably be okay as our
data doesn't really change frequently. I just don't know if with log
shipping if the cutover is transparent, trying to find out.

Also if the database were to go down, that is the impact to the users?
Can they continue to send/receive email?

thanks!

Yes, I've done it and we're running a mirrored SQL 2005 database (BES
5.0 MR2) in production.
