I ran into an issue with this using BES + Domino. One person had a large amount of contacts and the contact sync would fail at a certain point. I narrowed it down to a corrupt contact. I ended up having to go through exporting the contacts, deleting incomplete ones and then re-importing the new list (all in Lotus Notes).
