No idea why, but yes, I also experienced this on all 3 of the Storm2's I've 
activated.

One question for the Storm II (and for the 9700).

During the start of the BES activation it asks to reboot the device. I need to 
remove the battery other wise the activation synch does continue.

Do you  guys have this "issue" or "new feature" as well? And any idea why RIM 
did this?
