It took me a while, but what's missing is a BES icon. This appears to be fixed in BB OS 5, and I believe it's a setting in BES to set up a separate icon.
In our environment we've had a ton of issues with Exchange ActiveSync phones. Android doesn't support the two basic security functions correctly (passcode required, 1-hour timer before locking phone) and ends up not working. This was a problem with iPone until they updated to support EAS better after a year. I think this is the third try in hopes that it improved. I don't like the gmail app much better, though, at least it doesn't interfere with my BES mail.
